Summary

Description
English: This map shows the initial positions of the Greek and Persian armies reversed at the Battle of Marathon. Both lines are about one mile long and are separated by 8 stadia (about 0.9 mi). The tumulus mound, the burial site of the Greek soldiers slain in the battle, marks the area of most intense fighting and highest Greek casualties.
