English: Edmund N. "Big Ed" Orbeck (1915-2012) was an American football player, government official, labor official and politician. Orbeck played professional football for several teams in Southern California during the 1940s and 1950s. Moving to Fairbanks, Alaska, he was a longtime officer of Laborers Union Local 942, served on the Fairbanks city council and assisted with the fledgling athletic program at the University of Alaska. Orbeck is primarily known for serving as a Democratic member of the Alaska Senate and for heading the Alaska Department of Labor from 1974 to 1982.
